⭐︎ International Development in Education (Spring)

This course explores educational issues in developing countries and the role of education in addressing global challenges. Students are encouraged to examine development from multiple perspectives and reflect on how they can contribute to building more equitable and sustainable societies.

⭐︎Comparative and International Education (Spring)

This course explores education through international comparison, enabling students to examine Japanese education from broader perspectives. Topics include educational transfer, educational inequality, and globalization, encouraging critical reflection on education across different contexts.

⭐︎Seminar I/II/III/IV(Spring & Autumn)

This seminar focuses on comparative and international education and international educational development. Through academic reading, discussions, presentations, and collaborative research, students explore educational issues from global perspectives while developing critical thinking, research skills, and problem-solving abilities.

⭐︎Peace and Education (Autumn)

This course explores the fundamental question of what peace means and examines the role of education in building peaceful societies. Drawing on case studies from Japan and around the world, students examine the theory and practice of peace education through themes such as conflict, human rights, diversity, poverty, and sustainable development.

⭐︎Educational Circumstances Abroad (Autumn)

This overseas study course provides experiential learning through an English language program at the Philippine Normal University, interaction with local students, school visits, and cultural experiences. Students deepen their understanding of education, culture, and society in the Philippines while developing intercultural competence and global perspectives.

⭐︎Senior Thesis I/II

(Autumn) 

Students conduct independent research on a topic of their choice through literature reviews, data analysis, and, where appropriate, fieldwork. Through every stage of the research process—from developing a proposal to presenting the final thesis—they develop independent inquiry, critical thinking, and evidence-based academic writing.

(Spring & Autumn)

This course explores the founding philosophy of Soka University and its perspectives on education, peace, and culture. Through lectures, guest speakers, discussions, and presentations, students reflect on how these ideas relate to contemporary social issues, their own learning, and their future aspirations.

△Education for Sustainable Development and Intercultural Communication*

(Spring, Intensive)

This course explores the principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the role of intercultural communication in fostering sustainable societies. Students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to engage in dialogue, collaborate across cultures, and contribute to addressing global challenges.

△The Roles of Schools and Teachers in Promoting Global Citizenship Education*

(Autumn)

This course explores what it means to educate global citizens through both theory and practice. Drawing on UNESCO's framework for Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and case studies from Japan and around the world, students critically examine the roles of schools and teachers in promoting global citizenship within public education.
