Education and Intergenerational Mobility

Research Question

Can education change a person's future?

Overview

The extent of our education is not determined solely by our own efforts.

Various factors—such as our parents’ education, our family’s financial situation, the region where we were born, and our gender—influence our educational opportunities.

So, can education help us overcome the influence of these “circumstances of birth” and broaden our life choices?

and Life Choices

Is ours a society where children can expand their own potential regardless of their parents’ socioeconomic background?

Studying those intergenerational connections is one of my research topics.

Education is a vital means of expanding one’s life choices.

However, not everyone has access to the same educational opportunities. Furthermore, even when people receive the same school education, the outcomes are not necessarily the same for everyone.
