Mission Statement
We specializes in comparative education and international educational development, focusing on global educational phenomena and challenges. With a particular focus on developing regions such as Asia and Africa, we explore themes including education and poverty, inequality, peace, and sustainable societies, while considering the potential that education holds for individuals and society.
We welcome applicants even if you haven’t decided on your future career path yet. We hope you’ll discover your own potential through this opportunity to broaden your horizons to the world. We look forward to hearing from those who aspire to become teachers, those interested in international cooperation, those planning to pursue graduate studies, and those who love traveling abroad.
Proactive Learning
I support students in developing the ability to learn independently. By setting their own goals, exploring effective approaches, and finding meaning in each stage of the research process, students acquire skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. Building on the knowledge and experiences they have gained, I encourage them to approach their research as a meaningful project—one that fosters intellectual growth, initiative, and creativity.
Learning through English
English proficiency opens the door to a wide range of global opportunities. To prepare students for international engagement, I incorporate opportunities for English-language discussions and the use of academic literature, while taking individual backgrounds and language proficiency into account. I welcome students who are eager to contribute to society on a global scale—whether in international organizations, government, education, NGOs, or the private sector.
"Unlearning"
I provide opportunities for students to engage in fieldwork and deepen their learning through visits to educational institutions and international organizations in Japan and abroad. In 2024, for example, our seminar visited the Korean National Commission for UNESCO. Looking ahead, I hope to continue offering opportunities for "unlearning"—encouraging students to question assumptions, broaden their perspectives, and develop new ways of thinking—while taking their interests and aspirations into account.
Learning to Live Together
Inspired by the principles of education for inclusive and peaceful societies, I value mutual learning among seminar members as well as collaboration with diverse people both within and beyond the university. I also plan to provide opportunities for students to participate in joint seminars and collaborative activities with students from other universities.
